Cadover Bridge

Cadover Bridge

Cadover Bridge

Cadover Bridge is another of our favourite places on Dartmoor. You can find Cadover Bridge between Yelverton and Wotter. It's a very pleasant spot which can become quite busier during good weather.

River Plym Cadover Bridge

There's a lovely car park at Cadover Bridge where you'll often be able to find an ice cream van and there is easy access into the river where children and dogs love to play and splash around in warm weather.

Morwellham and Tamar Trails

Our eldest son decided during the summer that he wanted to go for a ride on his mountain bike and so i suggested that we go to the Morwellham and Tamar Trails.

We thought we'd take one of the easier routes and although he had great fun there were a few uphill areas which he struggled with a little.

Morwellham and Tamar TrailsWheal Maria

The route we took was the Wheal Maria trail that can be seen on the plaque above indicated in green. We parked up at the car park and set off!

The views along the way and although it was a beautiful day it was a little warm at times so please ensure you take a drink if you do any of these trails.

We had a brilliant time and will no doubt be going back again soon!

Dartmoor Ponies

Dartmoor Ponies

Dartmoor Ponies
We are really lucky to live where we do! Dartmoor lies right on our doorstep along with all of the benefits it brings including of course the wonderful animals.

Dartmoor ponies can be found all over Dartmoor and we have a fair few living on the moorland near to our home.

Whilst out walking the dog, i took these few photos!

Plaster Down Kickaround

Plaster Down Kick Around

Plaster Down is an area of moorland on Dartmoor near to Tavistock and it's an area that we regularly visit to take the dog for a walk or have a kick around with a football and the kids.

Stan Dog

It's a lovely area of Dartmoor with plenty of space and is very popular with families and dog walkers.

Below you'll find a few photos of the area and a bit of fun we had!

Tamar Valley Line Railway

Tamar Valley Line Railway

As bit of a treat we decided to take the kids into Plymouth to go tenpin bowling but instead of just driving we decided to give them a bit of a surprise!

Early in the morning my eldest son and i got into the car and drove into Plymouth train station leaving the Mrs and our other two children at home.

We arrived in Plymouth, parked the car in the car park at the train station and bought return tickets for the two of us from Plymouth to Gunnislake and then single tickets for the Mrs and our two other kids from Gunnislake to Plymouth.

My eldest and i then boarded the train and traveled along the beautiful Tamar Valley Line to Gunnislake where the Mrs and children met us.

Tamar River Railway

The Tamar Valley Line takes you on a wonderfully relaxing journey from Plymouth up along the river Tamar to Calstock and then on to Bere Alston and finally to Gunnislake. You can image whilst on the train how it would have been traveling by steam train many years ago.

Calstock Viaduct Railway

This particular photo shows the view out of the train window over the viaduct at Calstock!

All three children really enjoyed the trip and it made a brilliant change from the usual drive into Plymouth. It was an especially good trip due to the wonderful weather we had that day which showed off the river Tamar and surrounding area in all it's glory.

A Walk at Grenofen

There's nothing we like better than getting out and about with the kids and the dog for a walk. Our black lab Stan, like many others black lab's, loves going for a walk and he especially loves the water.

Walk at Grenofen

Grenofen Walk

One of our favourite places to go for a walk is along the river at Grenofen, which is near to Tavistock.

There's a narrow track which leads from Grenofen along the A386 down to the river Walkham.

At the end of the track there's a fairly large parking area and from here you can walk either up stream or downstream for some distance and there are plenty of small beaches which are perfect for the kids to throw stones into the water and for Stan to get in to do a bit of swimming.

Our middle son can be seen above at one of the beaches just before he throws a stone in!

Dartmoor Photo's

I was driving along and simply had to pull over to take a few photos. These were taken looking over Sourton Village near Okehampton towards Great Links Tor.

Dartmoor Sourton Okehampton

This part of the moor changes quite quickly with the weather. It can be wonderfully sunny one moment and then cloudy the next.

The last photo was taken from a track which leads up to Prewley Water Works from the A386 near to Sourton Cross. There's a small parking area at the entrance to the track which leads up across the moors where you can park and then walk up to the tor. It's quite a pleasant spot and the track also crosses the cycle track on the Granite Way.
