Tamar Valley Line Railway

Tamar Valley Line Railway

As bit of a treat we decided to take the kids into Plymouth to go tenpin bowling but instead of just driving we decided to give them a bit of a surprise!

Early in the morning my eldest son and i got into the car and drove into Plymouth train station leaving the Mrs and our other two children at home.

We arrived in Plymouth, parked the car in the car park at the train station and bought return tickets for the two of us from Plymouth to Gunnislake and then single tickets for the Mrs and our two other kids from Gunnislake to Plymouth.

My eldest and i then boarded the train and traveled along the beautiful Tamar Valley Line to Gunnislake where the Mrs and children met us.

Tamar River Railway

The Tamar Valley Line takes you on a wonderfully relaxing journey from Plymouth up along the river Tamar to Calstock and then on to Bere Alston and finally to Gunnislake. You can image whilst on the train how it would have been traveling by steam train many years ago.

This particular photo shows the view out of the train window over the viaduct at Calstock!

All three children really enjoyed the trip and it made a brilliant change from the usual drive into Plymouth. It was an especially good trip due to the wonderful weather we had that day which showed off the river Tamar and surrounding area in all it's glory.
